Lee Nelken Robins (b. 1922) received her B.A. and M.A. at Radcliffe College and her Ph.D. from Harvard University/Radcliffe College in 1951. She received a NIMH special research fellowship to study the mathematical basis of statistics at Washington University, 1968-1970. He joined the faculty of Washington University School of Medicine department of Psychology (and Neurology) in 1954, serving as: research assistant (1954-1958) research instructor (1958-1959), research assistant professor of sociology (1959-1962), associate professor of sociology (1962-1966), professor of sociology in psychiatry (1966-1968), and professor of sociology in psychiatry (1968-). In 1992, she was appointed professor of social sciences in arts and sciences. Dr. Robin's research interest has been in the effect of drug use, alcoholism and other familial behavioral disorders on child development and Vietnam veterans and the epidemiology of adult psychiatric disorders. She was the principal investigator on the National Institute of Mental Health's Epidemiologic Catchment Area (ECA) study which from 1980-1988 conducted detailed interviews with more than 18,500 people in 5 cities to provide estimated rates of specific disorders in U.S. populations. In 1993, she received the Nathan B. Eddy award for her outstanding contributions to the field of drug abuse research.
