Butt, Howard E., Sr., 1895-1991
Howard Edward Butt, Sr. (b. Apr. 9, 1895, Memphis, Tenn.-d. Mar. 12, 1991, Corpus Christi, Tex.), philanthropist and businessman, founder of the Texas-based H-E-B grocery store chain. In 1961, President John F. Kennedy appointed him to the President's Committee on Equal Employment Opportunity, and he also helped establish the University of Corpus Christi.
