Myra Colgan Hornbuckle and Mary Colgan Romine were first cousins of Harry S. Truman. Their mother, Emily Truman Colgan, was the sister of Harry S. Truman's father, John Anderson Truman. Harry Truman lived with the Colgan family briefly in 1905 when he was working in Kansas City, and remained close to his cousins Myra and Mary throughout his life. Myra was born Myra E. Colgan on July 17, 1881 in Jackson County, Missouri, and her nickname was Polly. She married Roy Hornbuckle in 1915. In January 1949, she attended the Presidential Inauguration of her first cousin, Harry S. Truman, in Washington, D.C. Myra died on October 2, 1975 in California, Missouri.
