Dixie Cup Company
The paper cup business which eventually manufactured the Dixie cup was first incorporated as the American Water Supply Company of New England in 1908. Several regional companies distributed its products. The Individual Drinking Cup Company was incorporated in 1910 with headquarters in New York City. It relocated to Easton, Pennsylvania in 1921. The company merged with the Vortex Cup Company of Chicago in 1936 to form the Dixie-Vortex Company. The name was changed to Dixie Cup Company in 1943. The company was bought in 1957 by American Can Company, which was acquired by the James River Corporation in 1982, which merged with the Fort Howard Corporation in 1997 to form the Fort James Corporation.
Hugh Moore (1887-1972) had an official capacity with the early regional companies. He served as president (1910-1936, 1939-1943) of the Individual Drinking Cup Company and the Dixie-Vortex Company. He was also a member of the board of directors (1936-1955) and the finance committee (1955-1957). He retired in 1957.
