One of six regiments created by the Connecticut legislature on May 1, 1775. By resolve of Congress on June 14, 1775, these regiments were taken into the Continental Army, and served till mid-December. The regiment was under the command of Colonel Samuel Parsons; he and Colonel John Tyler both commanded a successor regiment, the 10th Continental Regiment, the following year.
