Carl Stravinski was born 28 October 1918, in Plymouth, and matriculated at the Pennsylvania State College, where he was a three-year starter at tackle on the football team and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry in 1941. After serving in World War II, he played semi-pro football before joining the forestry service. His career in forestry included stops in Baltimore, Maryland, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Dayton, Ohio.
