Born at Olmstead County, Minn., son of Ole G. and Gulbjor Nelson. The family moved to a homestead near Hatton, N.D. Attended State Normal School at Mayville, N.D. Recuperated from tuberculosis in Norway during 1898; returned to farming in Traill and Dunn counties, N.D. Joined American Society of Equity in 1906. His health failed in 1911, moved to Texas, returning to Dunn County, N.D. in 1915. Helped organize Independent Voter's Association in 1917, remained active in politics and agriculture until 1924 when poor health required a move to Eugene, Oregon, later Beaumont, Calif. Wed Julia Rendedal, Mayville, N.D. in 1901; they divorced. In 1916, he wed Eva Hultgren, West Union, Minn. He is buried at Salem, Oregon.
