Lawyer and New Jersey Quartermaster-General, of Trenton, Mercer County, New Jersey; graduated from the College of New Jersey (now Princeton University) in 1838; read law with James S. Green and then Garret D. Wall; admitted to the New Jersey bar as an attorney, 1841, and as a counselor-at-law, 1844; served as New Jersey Quartermaster-General, 1845-188x, and as director of numerous railroads.
