Thomas F. Barton was a professor in the Department of Geography and Geology at Southern Illinois University from 1935-1947, serving as head of the department from 1936-1947. After leaving Southern Illinois University, he accepted positions at both Indiana University, Bloomington, and Prasanmit University in Bangkok. Barton wrote articles on geography instruction and curricula in secondary and post-secondary education and served as editor of the "Journal of Geography", Volume LX in 1961. Barton is the author of the book, "Living in Illinois", co-author of "The World About Us, Book 4" (1948), and co-editor of "Leaders in American Geography: Geographic Education" (1992).
