Harris, Field, 1895-1967.
Biographical note: Field Harris, a native of Woodford County, Kentucky, graduated from the United States Naval Academy and joined the United States Marine Corps in 1917. During World War II, in the Pacific, and during the Korean War, he commanded the First Marine Aircraft Wing. He is credited with aiding the development of aviation in the Marine Corps, and received numerous decorations and commendations. Before retiring in 1953 with the rank of lieutenant general, Harris served as Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps. After his retirement, Harris lead the Kentucky Law Library for ten years. He died in Woodford County in December 1967.
