Evangelist; born January 7, 1902 in Russia to Jewish Orthodox parents; immigrated to Chicago with his family, 1914; converted, 1925; began to hold revival meetings in Oklahoma where he served as a medic with the U.S. Army, ca. 1927; held first large evangelistic meeting in Philadelphia, 1942; subsequent meetings held throughout the U.S. and in foreign countries; authored over forty books; died in 1983.
