Ohio University. College of Education
The College of Education Laboratory School was a private elementary school run by Ohio University (OU) to train teachers through hands-on experience. It was located in Putnam Hall on OU's Athens campus. It also is known by the names Putnam School and Ohio University Elementary School. It had class levels from kindergarten through sixth grade. The program lasted from approximately the late 1920s until it ended in 1972.

The Institute for Preparing Teachers Aides was created to prepare underprivileged high school students along with university students to work as teachers aides in preschools. It was proposed by the Center for Educational Research and Services in the College of Education at Ohio University and continued by the Department of Elementary Education.

The first Normal course at Ohio University was created in 1831, with a Model School being added in 1837. The Normal Department at Ohio University was founded in 1886, and was the first state-supported teacher preparation program in Ohio. These were the predecessors of the College of Education.

The John Hancock High School (JHHS) was established at Ohio University (OU) around 1917, and housed in the top floor of Ellis Hall. It was used as a facility for observation and practice for students in the College of Education. The JHHS closed in 1926.

The National Teacher Corps was a federally funded Great Society program established as part of the Higher Education Act of 1965 to provide teachers to poverty-stricken areas of the United States.
