Davis Family.
Jefferson Davis graduated from West Point in 1828 and served in the Army for seven years. In 1847 he was elected to the U.S. Senate, and he remained in public office until 1861 and the secession of the southern states. He was formally elected to the presidency of the Confederate States in October, 1861.
