Roger Lang was born in Alaska. He worked as a federal employee (1947-1969) after which he resigned to become more active in native affairs. Lang was involved with several native organizations including the Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska (1968-1975), the Sealaska Corporation (1972-1978), the Alaska Brick Company (1977-1978), Alaska Native Foundation (1972-1973), the Alaska Federation of Natives (1974-1975), and the Alaska Federation of Natives, the Rural Alaska Community Action Program, and the Bristol Bay Native Corporation (1976-1977).
