May Bourne Strassburger was a Singer sewing machine heiress. She married Ralph Beaver Strassburger, a founder of the Pennsylvania German Society. They moved to Normandy Farms, Gwynedd Valley, Pa. in 1923 and filled their home with Pennsylvania German artifacts. A large number of looms, yarns, spinning machines, and books about the textile arts suggests that a craft school may have been operated at Normandy Farms until the 1930s. The Strassburger's son, J.A. Peterm, inherited the estate. It remained in his hands until his death in 1993.
