Drumm, Henry A., 1857-1937

Charles W. Haffner had an eye put out by blowing sand while working on one of the WPA road projects. The map was donated by Haffner's grandson, who coincidentally married Henry Drumm's granddaughter.

Marinus G. Smith arrived in Boulder in 1859, and secured 220 acres immediately south of Boulder's commercial district. He established a stage line to Denver and the mountain towns, and introduced many tree and fruit varieties to early Boulder. Smith was a County Commissioner, City Trustee, and was the largest donor to the founding of the University.

According to an article in the Camera of 21 July 1905, Smith's "old log house down by the creek" was destroyed on that date. "Through the Smith home place it was decided that a street should run and that settled the old log cabin's case. Forty-five years ago Marinus G. Smith built that house when he pre-empted the home place. In it some of his numerous children were born and one of them, Mrs. Henry A. Drumm, wept this morning when she saw the old house go."
