The Catholic Commission on Intellectual and Cultural Affairs was founded in 1946 to promote national and international Catholic intellectual and cultural cooperation, consciousness and interchange of ideas, and to focus on the problems these elements present to Catholics. Annual meetings were held on a national basis and regional meetings were conducted, numerous studies undertaken, and a register of American Catholic Scholars maintained. Prominent members included C. Joseph Nuesse, Rev. Paul Hanly Furfey, Rev. Stephen Kuttner, and Msgr. George G. Higgins.
