Barbara Ciurej and Lindsay Lochman have collaborated on photography since 1978. During that time, they used their common experiences as women in the home environment to address feminist themes in their photography. Themes throughout their photography include the domestic landscape, architecture, and the American landscape in an attempt to interpret the human condition. Barbara Ciurej was born in 1956 and received her BS in 1978 in Visual Design with honors from the Institute of Design at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. Lochman also attended the Illinois Institute of Technology and received her MS in Visual Design in 1977. Both were involved with Artemisia Gallery in Chicago from 1979 until 1984. Ciurej served as secretary of this organization from 1979 to 1980 and president from 1980 to 1982.
