Henry Frank Hubbard was born November 23, 1917 in Canton, Texas. He is the first born son of William Walton Hubbard and Lula Mae Beard Hubbard, and had two siblings, Gracie V. Hubbard and Warren "Jenks" Hubbard. He attended his early school years in Abilene and Eastland, Texas, graduating from Humble High School of Humble, Texas in 1934. Henry entered Hardin Simmons College in 1934 at age 16 1/2 and attended two years. He enlisted and received appointment as a Flying Cadet in the U.S. Air Corps in June of 1940. In October of 1940, he met his future wife Esther Joyner in Montgomery, Alabama. They married on May 17, 1941 in Hampton, Virginia. Their daughter, Edith Gail, was born December 29, 1941. Lt. Hubbard was assigned to the Pacific Theater in World War Two, flying in the Aleutian Island Chain of the Territory of Alaska. He was one of the very first casualties of the Aleutian campaign, dying when his B24 bomber was hit in the air by Japanese fire during the raid on Kiska in 1942.
