The Howell and Foreman families were brought together through the marriage of Effie Howell and Robert Foreman, in 1893.

Both families have been in Georgia for many years and have been involved in a variety of enterprises. Members of the families have fought for the Confederacy during the Civil War, worked in the newspaper business, worked in insurance, fought in World War I, and served in a variety of other capacities.
