The Earls of Mornington
William Wellesley Pole (1763-1845) was created first Baron Maryborough in 1821 and succeeded as third Earl of Mornington in 1842 on the death of his elder brother, the first Marquis Wellesley. Wellesley Pole was First Secretary to the Admiralty, 1807-9, Chief Secretary for Ireland, 1809-12, Chancellor of the Irish Exchequer, 1811-12, Master of the Mint 1814-23, and Postmaster General in the government of his brother, the first Duke of Wellington, in 1834-5.
