Norton, Joseph Jeptha, 1835-1896.
Colonel, Company C, Orr's Rifles (1st South Carolina Regiment of Rifles, Confederate States of America); temperance activist; judge, 1886-1894, of the 8th judcial circuit; resident of Oconee County, S.C.; president of the Ohalga Tobacco Company; Norton, along with Alfred W. Thompson, was instrumental in establishing Seneca City, S.C., in the early 1870s when the Atlanta and Richmond Airline Railroad arrived in the upstate.
