May Ringo Thompson was born in Fleming County, Ky. and attended what became the University of Kentucky. After receiving medical training at Bellevue Hospital in New York City, she served as superintendent of Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington, Ky. Thompson also served as an officer in the Lexington, state, and national organizations of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
