The Huntsville (Ala.) Republican Club was organized 1876 June 22. Though its official name was the Madison County Central Club, it was known by the name listed above. The organization was based on the U.S. Constitution, the Emancipation Proclamation of Abraham Lincoln, and the civil rights bill of Charles Sumner. The following persons were elected to offices: Z.E. Thomas, president; Sandy Bynum, vice-president; John M. Crop, secretary; David Wilson, assistant secretary; and Garret Richardson, treasurer. A platform of principles was adopted 1876 June 14.
