Originally from Yarmouth, ME, George Lovell graduated from Norwich University in the class of 1899 with a degree in civil engineering. He was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity and the Epsilon Tau Sigma honor society. He was salutatorian of his class. Following his graduation from Norwich, George Lovell worked for the Boston and Albany Railroad, the Sanborn Map Company, the New York Fire Insurance Exchange and the Perkins Brokerage Company in New York City. Later, Lovell served as a mathematics instructor at Keene (NH) High School for 25 years.
