Harry Earle Tope, Sr. lived in Mount Pleasant (Mich.) at least from 1941 until 1962, and was married to Ruth Wright. Together they had two children: Harry E., Jr. and Michael F. Tope. Harry, Sr. was an oil producer and leaser. He purchased lots of Michigan real estate and oil and gas leases, mainly in the late 1930s and early 1940s. In approximately 1962 Harry, Sr. died. (This information is from the Mount Pleasant/Isabella County directories from 1941 through 1964. There is no obituary or census listing for Harry, Sr.) His son, Harry E. Tope, Jr. was born on June 11, 1942 in Mount Pleasant (Mich.). On Aug. 30, 1963, Harry, Jr. married E. Diane Brewster in Mount Pleasant. Together they had three daughters: Elizabeth Ann, Hilary, and Miriam Ruth Tope. A member of the Michigan Oil and Gas Association (MOGA) and MOGA's Board of Directors. Harry, Jr. owned H. E. Tope, Inc., an oil production company in Mount Pleasant. He was active in a number of aviation associations and owned several planes. On July 1, 1990, Harry, Jr. crashed his historic airplane while performing in an air show. He was buried from St. John's Episcopal Church in Mount Pleasant. Harry, Jr. was survived by his wife, daughters, mother, step-father, brother, grandmother, and a step-sister. His father, grandfather, and a half-sister proceeded him in death.
