Professor Ansley J. Coale was a demographer whose work focused on nuptiality, fertility, and mortality in several countries. A member of the Princeton University Class of 1939, Coale joined the faculty as a professor of economics in 1947 and went on to serve as director of the Office of Population Research from 1959 to 1975.
