Philip Nason Libby was born in 1896 in Gray, Maine and died in 1943. He graduated from the University of Maine in 1917 with a B.S. degree in forestry. During the summer of 1917 he worked for the Great Northern Paper Co. as forester and worked in northern Maine on the West Branch of the Penobscot River. He enlisted in the engineering corps the first of November 1917 and was assigned to Company A, 30th Engineers Gas and Flame. He served in Belgium, France, and Alsace and was slightly wounded while in France.
