Colby, Joseph M. (Joseph Milton)

Joseph Milton Colby was a graduate of the United States Military Academy (USMA), Class of 1929. He was assigned to the Ordnance Corps, a branch he remained with throughout his career. Colby was cited as being responsible for the design and development of the Grant, Lee, Sherman, Chaffee, Walker Bulldog, Hellcat, Pershing, and Patton tanks. He was also the developer of a variety of other armored vehicles and many self-propelled artillery weapons. Colby retired as a Brigadier General in 1959.
