Hale was born 1816 Jan. 31, in Crittendon Co., Ky., to Mr. and Mrs. William Hale. Hale graduated from Cumberland University and arrived in Eutaw, Greene Co., Ala. about 1837. He practiced law from 1839 forward, in 1843 he was elected for one term to the Ala. Legislature from Greene Co., and ca.1844 married Mary E. Kirksey. From 1846-1848 he fought in the Mexican War, serving as a lieutenant. He practiced law from 1848-1857, when he was elected to the Ala. legislature, and re-elected in 1859. During the Civil War he was chosen lieutenant-colonel of the Eleventh Ala. Infantry, until he was fatally wounded at the Battle of Seven Pines, on 1862 July 18. Hale Co. was named in his honor in 1866.
