George Clarke Jenkins was born in Baltimore, MD, Nov. 19, ca. 1908-11 (sources vary); studied architecture, Univ. of PA, 1929-31; interior and industrial designer (1934-35); asst. to stage designer Jo Mielziner (1937-41); first Broadway play as stage designer for Early to bed (1943); first film as art director for Best years of our lives, (1946); art director in charge of experimental color programming at CBS (1953-54); taught motion picture design, UC Los Angeles, 1985-89; Academy Award for All the president's men, 1976.
