Frederick Andrew Seaton was born on December 11, 1909 in Washington, D.C., December 11, 1909. He attended Kansas State College at Manhattan, Kansas. In 1936 he was secretary to Republican presidential candidate Alfred M. Landon. He also served as president of Seaton Publishing Company, Hastings, Nebraska, and publisher of Hastings Daily Tribune. He was elected to the Nebraska State Senate for 1945 to 1949, and served as the chairman of the legislative council from 1947 to 1949. On December 10, 1951, he was appointed as a Republican to the U.S. Senate, to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Kenneth S. Wherry. He served until November 4, 1952, and was not a candidate for election to the vacancy. He served as Assistant Secretary of Defense from 1953 to 1955. In February 1955 he became administrative assistant to President Dwight D. Eisenhower and served until June 1955, when he was made deputy assistant. He served in this capacity until May 1956. He then served as the Secretary of the Interior from 1956 to 1961. In 1961 he resumed his work in the publishing business. He died on January 16, 1974 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
