Burton Curtis Andrus was born in Fort Spokane, Washington on 15 April 1892. In October 1917 he was accepted in the United States Army at Madison Barracks, New York. Andrus' assignments included: Command of Troop A, 26th Cavalry in the Philippines from 1924-1926; Adjutant of the United States Army Cavalry School in 1927; Air Corps Instructor at the Cavalry School from 1928-1933; Command of Civilian Conservation Camp in Oregon in 1933; Plans and Training Officer, 13th Cavalry in 1934-1935; the 7th Cavalry Brigade from 1935-1940; Pennsylvania National Guard Bureau January-July 1940; and reassigned to Washington D.C., 1940 and placed in charge of air-ground cooperation. During World War II, Andrus' assignments included Commandant, Caven Point Terminal, New Jersey, 1942-1943; Executive Officer, Fort Hamilton, New York, January-August 1943; Director of Intelligence, Security Division, New York Port of Embarkation August 1943-January 1944; Commanding Officer of the 10th Traffic Regulation Group (TRG), Europe January-December 1944; Combat Observer, G-3 (Operations) Branch, Headquarters, European Theater of Operations, December 1944-May 1945; Commandant, Prisoner of War Enclosure #32 in Mondorf-les-Baines, Luxembourg, May-August 1945; and Commander, 6850th Internal Security Detachment (ISD) and Commandant, Nuremberg Prison under the International Military Tribunal, United States Forces, European Theater (USFET), May 1945-October 1946. Post- World War II assignments: Headquarters, Military District of Washington October 1946-1947; Military Attaché to Israel 1948-1949; He returned to Washington, D.C. and was reassigned as the Military Attaché to Brazil in December 1949. Andrus returned to the United States in April 1952 and was officially retired from the Army on 30 April. After retiring from the Army, he earned a Bachelor of the Arts in Business Administration from the College of Puget Sound, Tacoma, Washington and was asked to remain as a professor. He died on 1 February 1977.
