Edward D. Grant was Secretary of Education and Promotion for the Presbyterian Church in the U.S. (PCUS) executive Committee of Foreign Missions, 1921-1934; Executive Secretary of the Board of Christian Education and Publication, 1934-1952; moderator of the PCUS General Assembly in 1962; and an elder of First Presbyterian Church (Baton Rouge, La.).

Grant served as Director of Institutions for the state of Louisiana, 1952-1958. In 1958 and 1959, he worked with American Leprosy Missions, Inc. in New York City. Beginning in 1959, he was president of Grant Chemical Company in Baton Rouge. He also served on the boards of the National Council of Churches and the Christian Children's Fund, and was founder and first president of the International Hospitality Foundation of Louisiana State University.
