Pharmacist, founder of Louis Drug Store and life-long Iowa City resident. Louis attended the University of Iowa and served a pharmacy apprenticeship under Emil L. Boerner (later dean of the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy). After becoming a registered pharmacist he entered into a partnership with J.W. Breen, establishing the Louis and Breen Drug Store. The partnership was dissolved in 1900 and the business became the Louis Drug Store. He was active in a number of civic and social organizations including the Elks Lodge, the Iowa City Commercial Club (predecessor to the Iowa City Chamber of Commerce) and the Iowa City Knights of Pythias, as well as several state and national pharmaceutical associations. He married Ada Webb in 1950. The couple had two children, a daughter, Nena, and a son, Norwood Clark. The store was run by Nena and a grandson, Norwood Clark Louis II, after Henry's retirement and became predominantly a photography supply business.
