Henry P. Wehrmann was born in New Orleans in 1871. He was the son of Henry Wehrmann, a music printer born in Prussia, and Charlotte Marie Clementine Bohne, engraver, of Paris, France. His parents moved to New Orleans in 1849. Wehrmann played and taught piano, guitar, mandolin,and organ. Among his professional positions were organist at First Presbyterian Church and for the BPOE Lodge 30, director of music at Isidore Newman School, organizer and manager of the Beethoven String Quartet, director of Tulane University Glee Club, and professor of music at Louisiana State University. He was concert master of the French Opera House of New Orleans when it burned in 1917. He and his mother were collectors of rare music manuscripts.
