Women's Educational and Industrial Union (Buffalo, N.Y.)
Organized on 11 Feb. 1884 by a group of Buffalo women, assisted by Mrs. Abby Morton Diaz of Boston, "to increase the fellowship among women, in order to promote the best practical methods for securing their educational, industrial, and social advancement." The Union's headquarters, at 25 Niagara Square, included a free library, gymnasium, and kitchen. The Union aided homeless, unemployed, incarcerated, and mentally ill women, provided classes and lectures on domestic science, physical culture, and business, and supported school and other reforms.
