Jones, Emyr Wyn
Variant namesDr Emyr Wyn Jones, O.B.E., M.D., LL.D., F.R.C.P., F.S.A. of Llansannan, Denbighshire and Liverpool, was born at Waunfawr, Caernarfonshire in 1907. He received his education at Waunfawr Elementary School and Caernarfon County School and graduated from Liverpool University with a First Class Honours in Medicine and Surgery in 1928.
He married Enid, daughter of Dr D. Llewelyn Williams in 1936 and had two children, Carys Wyn and Richard Gareth Wyn. In 1967, his wife died suddenly whilst travelling in an aeroplane. Dr Emyr Wyn Jones remarried in 1973 to Megan, widow of Prof. T. Jones Pierce.
Dr Emyr Wyn Jones was associated with the Royal Liverpool Infirmary since his graduation in 1928; as Resident, Clinical Assistant and Senior Medical Registrar. Since 1935 he was a member of the consultant staff of the Liverpool Teaching Hospitals and of the Royal Infirmary from 1938 until his retirement in 1972. He was elected fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, April 1949.
He took part in numerous activities in Wales and amongst other things, was a member of the Court of the National Library of Wales, the National Museum of Wales, the University of Wales, and the University College of North Wales. He also took an active role within the National Eisteddfod of Wales.
In 1947 - 1948 Dr Emyr Wyn Jones was the High Sheriff of the county of Caernarfon. He was awarded the O.B.E. in 1971. He died in 1999 .
