Elizabeth Parrish Jackson was born on October 10, 1889, the daughter of Isaac Jackson, a stockbroker. During World War I she worked in France with the American Red Cross, helping to rehabilitate French soldiers who had been blinded during combat. After the war, she lived in Boston, where she worked as personnel manager at Jay's Department Store.
