James Latham Underhill (b. June 12, 1891, San Francisco, California-d. Oct. 7, 1991), Lieutenant General in the U.S. Marine Corps, graduated from university and was commissioned in 1913. He served as commanding officer of the 8th Separate Battalion in France (1918), in Nicaragua, in the Philippines, and in China. During the Second World War, he was commanding general of the Marine Corps Base in San Diego, commander of the 4th Marine Division, and deputy commander, then inspector general of the Fleet Marine Force Pacific. General Underhill retired in 1946.
