Otto and Caroline Brasch immigrated from Germany during the 1870's and encouraged their children to improve themselves by writing letters. Frederick Brasch attended Stanford University (1897-1899) and was chief of the Smithsonian Division of the Libraray of Congress for many years. From 1948 until his death in 1967 he was curator of the Frederick E. Brasch collection on Sir isaac Newton the the history of scientific thought.
