Illinois representative (Republican) from Lawrence County, Illinois (1955-1958, 1961-1964, 1967-1970), elected sheriff of Lawrence County (1950) and served in the army as a commanding officer in France and Germany during World War II.
Burgoon served as chairman of Waterways, Conservation, Fish and Game Committee (1963-1964), a member of the Illinois Recreation Council (1963-1970) and a member of the Motor Vehicle Laws Commission (1969-1970). Burgoon also served in the Army Reserve from 1929 until his retirement in 1960.
