J. Sanger Attwill of Lynn, Massachusetts began working in the furniture business in 1927. His compnay, Attwill Furniture Company, specialized in custom made reproductions and also offered an interior design service. A mainstay of his business during the hard times of the Great Depression and World War II was restoration work and dealing in secondhand furniture. After the war, business improved, but by 1970, most of his work was in interior decoration and furniture restoration and refinishing, rather than making new, reproduction, pieces. In 1977, the company was sold to Ronald Trapasso, and is still in operation.
