Sir George Augustus William Shuckburgh-Evelyn

Sir George Augustus William Shuckburgh-Evelyn (1751-1804), 6th Baronet and mathematician, was born on 23 August 1751. He was educated at Rugby from 1760, and entered Balliol College, Oxford, in 1768 (B.A., 1772). Shuckburgh-Evelyn carried out investigations into the measurement of length, capacity and weight, and published Observations made in Savoy to ascertain the height of mountains by the barometer (London, 1777). He was the member of parliament for Warwickshire, 1780-1804. He died at Shuckburgh on 11 August 1804.
