Ford, Alice, 1906-

Alice Ford is an authority on American folk art. She wrote a biography of the Quaker artist, Edward Hicks, and published it in 1952.

Alice Ford was a prominent scholar and biographer of John James Audubon and Edward Hicks. Her books on Audubon include Audubon's Butterflies, Moths, and Other Studies (1952, ed.), John James Audubon: A Biography (1964, 1988), and The 1826 Journal of John James Audubon (1967, ed.). Her other books include Pictorial Folk Art, New England to California (1949), Edward Hicks, Painter of the Peaceable Kingdom (1952), and Edward Hicks: His Life and Art (1985).

John James Audubon (1785-1851) was a French-American ornithologist, naturalist, and painter. His The Birds of North America, written and lushly illustrated by Audubon himself, is considered one of the finest ornithological works ever completed.
