Born Chenoa, Illinois, 1913; graduated University of Chicago, 1934. Lived in Europe where she studied at League of Nations, Geneva, and edited monthly review for Graduate Institute of International Affairs. Lived in girls' labor camp in Germany, 1937, studying Nazi indoctrination methods; foreign correspondent for NBC during World War II, in France, Spain and Gibraltar; first outsider to broadcast from Spanish Civil War. Continued as foreign correspondent for NBC after returning to U.S., 1941-44; and war correspondent, 1944-45, covering Italy, Germany and Austria. Director for NY Herald Tribune Forum, 1945-61. Published No Matter Where (1944) based on her experiences in Europe; married Theodore Waller, 1948; 3 children. Died 1961.
