Herbert Arthur Davies (no. 13147), enlisted on 8/9/1916, served as a sergeant with the 2nd Division Supply Column, and was repatriated to Australia on 20/1/1919. He was born in Bendigo on June 26 1889. Joined the Argus in March 1911. Served in France and was invalided to England during the Passchendaele fighting in October 1917. He was the Victorian president of the Australian Journalists Association 1920 and Federal President 1921-22. In 1922 he was appointed delegate of the Australian Journalists Association to the Worlds Press Congress at Honolulu and elected by that congress as one of its Vice-Presidents.
