Philip Ament received a degree in dentistry from the University of New York at Buffalo. He practiced dentristry in the Buffalo area and was an early user of hypnosis for dental procedures. He taught and lectured about hypnosis by invitation to dental societies and universities. He was an examiner and instructor accredited by the American Society of Psychosomatic Dentistry and editor of its journal. In April, 1975 he was granted the Ph.D. in counseling psychology by Heed University of Hollywood, Florida. By this time he had retired from his dental practice. He continued to lecture and teach the techniques of hypnodontics.
