U.S. Navy photographer.

Born in San Francisco in 1893, Joseph Malta Frederick "Bunny" Haase joined the Navy in 1911 and was chief photographer at North Island Naval Air Station for much of his career in the 1920s and 1930s. Haase documented all the aviation activities from the early 1920s at North Island that at the time encompassed the Army's Rockwell Field and NAS San Diego. His large collection also covers civilian and Army aircraft. His air-to-air photographs are featured in many aviation reference books but usually under the credit line of the U.S. Navy. Haase also participated in the second Alaskan Aerial Survey of 1929 and was responsible for the first U.S. motion picture of the sun's eclipse done in 1930 that was done from an aircraft. Haase also worked as a racetrack photographer at Agua Caliente, Mexico, in 1934 and then became an official photographer for the Del Mar Turf Club when it opened in 1937. Credited with originating photograph labs at horse racetracks, Haase also worked at Bay Meadows, Tanforan, and other California racetracks. He and his wife Mary had a daughter name June. They lived in Coronado from around 1915 until his death in 1959.
