Hide Profile

Ad hoc group of University of Illinois students and faculty formed in response to campus disorders in May 1970, when students violently protested U.S. military involvement in Southeast Asia, involvement of the university in military research, killing of students at Kent State and Jackson State universities, an alleged racist murder by Champaign police, and the refusal of the university to close in response to student strike demands; its purpose was to advise students of their legal rights, monitor demonstrations, and gather information for later use by arrested students.
